The customer builds it themselves
A gift basket, a workstation PC, a shelving system: products made out of several others. On the product the customer walks through choice groups in order - with mandatory steps, conditions and a price that adds up as they go.

1parent product
A gift basket of basket, cheese, sausage and wrapping is one product with four choice groups. The contents stay your catalogue.
0new products in the catalogue
The selectable goods are your existing products, with stock, image and number. You create nothing new.
∞choice groups per configurator
Any number of steps in sequence, each with its own rules, prices and dependencies on the others.
52settings
From the place on the product page to the line in the order. Every one of them is explained in the manual.
For products made out of several products
Gift basket, PC, shelving system, mixed case, tool kit: the product does not exist until the customer is done.
- One product for the whole journey, however many decisions it holds.
- Ordinary products as parts - the same goods can still be sold on their own.
- A condition instead of a list: a group can follow a dynamic product group and maintain itself.
- Everything inside the shop: own tables, own settings, no third-party service in between.
Those products have one thing in common: they consist of several others, and which ones is up to the customer. A basket, three kinds of cheese, a wrapping. A case, a power supply, two fans. A base unit, four shelves, a back panel.
That is exactly what the configurator is built for: one parent product with any number of choice groups underneath. The selectable goods are ordinary products from your catalogue, with stock, image and number. They are only combined in the cart.
A side note: variants do not solve this. They describe one product in several versions - here it is several products in one combination. Try it as a variant matrix anyway and five baskets, twenty fillings and three wrappings come to three hundred variants.
Four steps to your first configurator
The structure is always the same, whether it is a gift basket, a tool set or an office fit-out.
Create the configurator
A record of its own with a name, a position on the product page and the basic options.
Fill the choice groups
Pick a source per group: a list of products or a dynamic product group.
Set the rules
Mandatory field, multiple selection, quantities, fixed sets, dependencies and preselection.
Assign the product
Set “Is Configurator” on the product and pick the configurator. Done.
What the choice groups can do
Every group is configured on its own. That is why very different steps may stand side by side in one configurator.
Mandatory, multiple, quantities
What has to be chosen, what may be chosen more than once and how many pieces are allowed per line.
Fixed sets
“Choose exactly six” or “up to three” - four rules cover every common case.
Dependencies
Groups stay hidden or locked until a condition is met. Four condition types are available.
Input fields
A text box per line, optionally mandatory - for engravings, names and custom texts.
Prices and rebates
Surcharges instead of full prices, prices per group, percentage surcharges and rebates above a threshold.
List, slider or gallery
Three presentations, plus images, click behaviour and collapsible groups for long journeys.
What it can do, one section at a time
Every setting below is shown as a real state of the shop, not as a screenshot.
Presentation Choice and quantity Fixed sets Dependencies Prices Rebate and threshold Input and empty choice Variants Overview After the choice Place on the page
Three ways to show a group
Every choice group is configured on its own. So list, slider and gallery may stand side by side in one configurator.
as list
One row per product, with an image if you like. The most readable option, and along with the slider the only presentation where an input field appears.
as slider
Side by side with paging. The choice when the image sells and space is short - in the right column next to the price, for instance.
as gallery
A grid of tiles. Reduce distances moves them closer together, Full area marking hides the buttons and makes the whole tile clickable.
Who may choose what - and how much of it
Four switches on the Options tab decide how strict a group is. They mix freely.
Mandatory field
Something has to be chosen from this group, otherwise nothing reaches the cart.
Multiple selection
More than one product from the same group is allowed.
Quantity selectable
The quantity sits on the line, not on the cart. The starting value comes from Preselected quantity.
Disable selection
Together with a preselection the group becomes a pure bill of materials: it only shows what is included.
Four rules for “choose x pieces”
A stream can be run as a set. The lower bound then comes solely from the behaviour - the mandatory field is explicitly not considered for sets, and multiple selection has to be on.
free choice (0 to x)
They may take nothing at all, but no more than x.
at least one (1 to x)
At least one must go in, x is the ceiling.
a range (x to y)
A floor and a ceiling, both set by you.
exactly x pieces
Neither more nor less. The mixed case at a fixed price.
Groups waiting for a decision
A group can stay hidden or disabled until a condition is met. On the left the state before, on the right after - same page, one click in between.
Before: nothing chosen
The power supply is visible but locked - the customer sees that a step is still coming. The extra fan is hidden entirely, because without a power supply it plays no part.
Disabled until a case is chosen.
Appears once a power supply is chosen.
After: the case is set
As soon as at least one condition is met, the group becomes visible and active. The power supply now offers only what fits this case - the rest stays locked.
A condition refers either to a particular stream or to “Any stream”. Four types are available: Has any product, Has a product from, Has no product from, Has no product. Several conditions work side by side - one fulfilled condition is enough.
Six ways to show a price
The price of a configuration is built in layers. Every group decides for itself how its lines are calculated and displayed.
Standard prices
Every line with its own price. The cart adds them up.
Relative prices
Every line as a surcharge on the current selection. Without multiple selection it is the difference, downwards too.
Products free of charge
For mandatory options and pseudo products such as colours, which should have no price of their own.
Free, but show prices
The customer sees what the parts would cost individually but pays the package price. An advantage without a struck-through price.
Hide prices
Takes the numbers out of the display entirely - useful when everything would otherwise read “€0.00”.
Percentage surcharge
Set on the product: its own price is ignored, a percentage on the entire configuration applies instead.
The customer sees the rebate before they have it
A rebate can be tied to a quantity or a sum - counted across the whole configurator or per group. With Show hint the progress sits right on the configurator.
Threshold not reached yet
Four of five lines. The hint says what is missing - depending on the configuration as a message, as a bar, or both.
Threshold reached
From the fifth line on the rebate applies - with scope “Per configurator” to every group, with “Per stream” only where the threshold is reached.
Two things deliberately do not count: the parent product and percentage surcharges. Surcharges are moreover never rebated - otherwise a percentage would inflate itself and then be cut back.
When the customer contributes something
Not every decision is a choice. Some things have to be typed - and sometimes “none of these” is the right answer.
Input field
A text box per line, with its own placeholder. It appears only in the list and slider presentation.
Mandatory entry
Without a text the product cannot be selected. In the input field area the switch is called Mandatory.
No Selection
The tile used to deliberately deselect a group - with a custom text and a custom image instead of the default.
Variant products inside the configurator
Variants and configurator do not exclude each other. Three settings decide how a variant product appears in a group.
Without fanning out
The parent product stands as one row; the customer picks the variant afterwards.
Fan out variants
Every available variant is selectable on its own - without the detour through the parent product.
Properties as name, filter
The product name drops away, only the properties remain. Individual variants can be blocked on the Filter tab without removing them from the catalogue.
Keeping long journeys readable
A configurator with eight groups quickly becomes a long page. Three settings keep it readable.
Display summary
Above the configurator stands what is currently chosen.

What happens once the customer is done
A configurator does not end on the product page. Four places decide whether it holds up in daily operation.
The price in the category
A configurator has no price, it has a range. Choose between a from price and the fixed price of the preselection. A cache of its own keeps the listing fast.
In the cart and in the order
The parent product carries the line, the components sit underneath. Whether your ERP sees one set or individual products is your decision in the settings.
Save and pass on
A half-finished combination gets an address of its own. The approver opens it later unchanged. A scheduled task clears old ones out again.
Question about the product
Next to the cart there can be a Question about the product link. It leads to a landing page carrying an ordinary Shopware form - and writes the current configuration into its comment field automatically.
Four places on the product page
Where the configurator sits is a setting, not a theme change. The four values are named verbatim like this:
Below the image, above the description
Full width. The usual place for long journeys with many groups.
Below the image, below the description
Full width, but after the copy - when the description has to convince first.
Below the price, above the cart button
Right column. Right at the price, for a few short groups.
Below the price, below the cart button
Right column, under the button - for extra options that should not hold up the purchase.
Every setting at a glance
The complete list of what can be set on a configurator, on a choice group and on the product - with the labels that appear in the admin.
