Personalisation

Engraving and custom text

A personal text is not a variant. How the customer enters it right where it belongs and where it turns up afterwards.

A custom text is not a product property. It is unique, it belongs to this one order, and it has to reach the workshop in full. Variants are no help here - there is no variant called “For Grandma Erna, 1954-2026”.

That is why every choice group in the configurator can carry its own input field. The customer types the text right next to the choice it belongs to.

From the input field to the workshop

  1. Switch on the input field in the stream and store a placeholder that shows what is expected.
  2. If the text is compulsory, also set Mandatory. Without an entry the combination does not reach the cart.
  3. In the settings under Orders, decide how the configuration is stored - among other things the components can be written into the order as products of their own.
  4. Via the customer comment the whole configuration can be written into the order comment using a Twig pattern. That is the shortest route into any ERP that picks up comments.

As list or slider only

The input field explicitly does not appear in the gallery presentation. If a group is meant to take a text, set it to as list or as slider - otherwise the field is switched on and invisible all the same.

What an input field is not

It is a text field, not a validation. Character count, forbidden words or special characters are not checked here but, if it matters, when the order is processed. If you would rather not deal with that, work with fixed choices instead of free text.

Several texts in one order

Every group can have its own input field. In a set of four engraved glasses each glass gets its own line - and afterwards the order records which text belongs to which product. That is the difference from a single comment box on the cart, where everything lands together and someone has to pull it apart again.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make the text compulsory?
Yes, with the Mandatory option. Without an entry the combination does not reach the cart.
In which presentations does the field appear?
As list and as slider only. In the gallery presentation the input field is not displayed, even when it is switched on.
How does the text reach my ERP?
Through the order. On top of that the whole configuration can be written into the customer comment of the order using a text pattern.
