Streams: the choice groups

Streams are the actual tool. A configurator without streams displays nothing; every decision the customer makes is a stream.

General tab

Internal name

An internally used name that appears only in the administration.

Title

The visible heading of the stream in the shop.

Translatable
yes

Optional description

A text between the heading and the products - the right place for a short explanation.

Products tab

Source

Where the selectable products come from.

  • List of products - you maintain the products individually, order included
  • Dynamic product group - the stream follows a condition and maintains itself

The dynamic group is the choice for ranges that change. Whatever drops out of the group drops out of the configurator.

Sort by

The order used for a dynamic product group.

  • by name ascending
  • by name descending
  • by number ascending
  • by number descending
  • by price ascending
  • by price descending

Maximum number

How many products from the group are displayed at most.

Options tab: selection

Mandatory field

At least one product must be selected from this stream.

For a set this option is not considered. There, the set behaviour alone determines the lower bound.

Multiple selection

More than one product may be selected.

Disable selection

Selection is locked. Together with a preselection this produces a fixed bill of materials.

Options tab: quantity and variants

Preselected quantity

The quantity a chosen line starts with.

Quantity selectable

The customer may set the quantity per line.

Fan out variants

Shows every variant individually instead of the parent product followed by a variant choice.

Variant properties as name

Drops the product name and shows only the properties.

Example from the help text: “Color: Red, Size XXL” instead of “T-shirt Color: Red, Size XXL”.

Options tab: set

Activate

Turns the stream into a set with a fixed quantity.

The help text points out two things: “mandatory field” is not considered for sets, and “Multiple selection” has to be activated.

Behaviour

Which limits apply to the quantity.

  • free choice, maximum the selected quantity (0 to x pieces)
  • at least one piece, maximum the selected quantity (1 to x pieces)
  • at least the selected quantity, maximum the selected quantity (x to y pieces)
  • exactly the selected quantity (x pieces)

Quantity X and Quantity Y

The numbers the chosen behaviour refers to.

Riesling dry Pinot Noir Silvaner

The lower bound comes from the set behaviour, not from the mandatory field.

The field appears only in the list and slider presentation, not in the gallery.

An optional hint inside the empty field.

Frequently asked questions

How many streams may a configurator have?
The plugin sets no limit. In practice readability does - for many groups there is the Streams collapsable option.
Can I use products in several streams?
Yes, the same product can appear in several groups. Prices can be stored separately per stream.
What is the difference between a mandatory field and a set?
A mandatory field demands at least one choice. A set fixes a quantity - and overrides the mandatory field while doing so.
